BIO
My name is Wu Ting Wei from Taiwan, who is currently the graduate student of Department of Bioengineering, University of California, Berkeley. To see more about me, please click on the following links:
Background

Background

I, Wu Ting Wei, was born into a harmonious countryside in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Elder generation engaged in agriculture. However, since I started my education, on account of my parents’ workplace, we had transferred to Taipei for residence. Due to my father’s own enterprise dealing with the development of medical implement as well as semiconductor, I was deeply influenced by his entrepreneurship and, since childhood, had gradually yearned for the distinctive knowledge endowed by electronic and biomedical engineering. As for my mother, originally engaged in the financial circle, in view of upbringing of my sister and I, enduringly resigned the job. Perhaps, it is the perseverance that cultivates my attitude of responsibility and genuine gratitude to my mother. In addition, there is also a young sister of mine.

I am open-minded, love to make friends and devote myself to assisting others, revealed through my frequent attendance in various activities. Scrupulous and assiduous in academics, I make every endeavor to accomplish my goals. Owing to the eldest child in our family, I was taught to be responsible of my deeds and valiance to shoulder mistakes and admonition, also gradually cultivated as an independent leader willing to reciprocate the society. Perhaps, in the process of my education, it wasn’t as smooth as I wished to be, or even numerous contingencies of failure and setbacks in tournaments. However, trepidation every time also gradually sharpened my vanity and led me to search another path to success.

In addition, I am the one ardent in Nature, favoring adventures, variation of everything’s interaction. Aside from indulged in go play, drawing, music etc., persistence and patience are established in my disposition as well. It was a leader of Boy scout experience and the class in my school that foster my leadership and responsibility.

School Education

School

The education process initiated in Heng Yee kindergarten in Taipei County. Its Montessori education nurtured my independent learning and ability of thinking. In seven, due to parents’ jobs, I converted into Taipei City where I studied Sanyu Elementary School.

During Three years in Wego junior high school, with perseverance of studying and distinctive Wego mountain programs soothing my nerves, I arrived at the graduation representing another milestone of my education and received the Mayor Price (First place in all students). After contemplating on whether testing for other high school program or staying for a great while, I chose to proceed to my education in Wego. Not knowing it’s right or wrong, I was never remorse and persisted in my dream, then entering a versatile and laconic high school life.

After entering senior high school, it was followed by the more paramount shrine of academy.

After receiving the overall first-place(Mayor Prize) in high school, I was matriculated in National Taiwan University Electrical Engineering. During my time in addition to academics, I was selected and participated in the National Taiwan University High school Physics Advanced programs for gifted students and National HsinHua University as well, learning the college physics and calculus in advance.

The following are the most conspicuous tournaments I attended:

In addition, during the Mathematics gifted class, a special topic of thin film calculation from color of refraction rendered me to participate in science fair and competition. Either losing or winning, they always represent my endeavor and devotion to every moment in contests.

I participated in English Debate Club, winning the excellence award in Cicero English Debate Contest-top-one contest in Taipei City. Moreover, I took part in substantial camps and symposiums including AIESEC Asia-Pacific Exchange and Leadership Development Seminar Symposium and representative of Taiwan in Global Young Leaders Conference. These diverse experiences let me establish indispensable confidence and rectitude accompanying with me toward my blueprint of life.

College Academics

College

Academic Performances

1. Freshman:

Besides the compulsory and communal courses, I participated in a wide diversity of liberal arts. In language session, with waived English courses, I delved profoundly into Spanish learning and received 2-year full A+, bound to take DELE B1 certificate in near future.

2. Sophomore:

In major courses, Electronics, Electronic Circuits Experiments and physics courses’ scores stand out in my academics, representing my great interest and predilection in electronics comprising devices, analog or digital circuits. Aside from major, Human right and justice, ROC constitution, civil code, and marketing management class participation denote my implementation in Law as well as business management with satisfying grades.

3. Junior:

In junior, I attempted to be obsessed with different elective classes, Data Structure and Programming, Semiconductor Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Experiments included, with a view to penchant exploration. Moreover, I started to conduct special topic research with two professors, Tsung-Hsien Lin PhD and Chih-Ting Lin PhD in two different groups. Learning analog circuit simulation method and rudimentary bio-MEMS techniques, I chose my way into EE and BioE combination research area.

4. Senior:

In incessant research with professor Chih-Ting Lin, I conducted more reasearch topic and had paper presentation in international conferences. Other than my major, I made my minor in Economics, including Macroecomonics and Money and Banking etc. to broad my specialty in business. After first term of Senior, I finished acquiring my total compulsory credits to graduate.

Therefore, I graduated advancedly in 2016 spring, and was matriculated in Graduate School of Electronics Engineering, NTU. Subsequently I received my Master of Science degree in 2017 with a one-year by 2017 Summer.

Grade Performances

From my first-year academics to junior year, a significant improvement is accentuated in my grades, particularly with my whole junior and senior year(overall 3 terms) GPA higher than 4.0/4.3. Especially, a top 5% rank was achieved with top ten in 200 students during 2nd term in junior year. I achieved the standard of excellence award in NTU.

Overall, due to disparate organization and plans in every academic year-Extracurricular activities and clubs in first and second year in college, academics and research in latter stage in college, grades gradually ascend and reach excellent criterion. The following figure implicate my high-level standard and progress during my college period.

Graduate Studies

Graduate

Research Performances

I obtained two master degrees at National Taiwan University and UC Berkeley:

During one and an half graduate year, I continued my college work in NTU CMOS Biotechnology Lab with my advisor Dr. Chih-Ting Lin. Also I  took much emphasis on my research work, which mainly comprises a novel microfluidic particle-analyzing device. On the basis of the work, I have my thesis topic:  The development of a microfluidic particle-analyzing device by impedance cytometry. Also I have published my work in 6 different international conferences and a journal manuscript. More information about my work could be found in RESEARCH.

For the other degree, I spent one year at UC Berkeley to complete master of engineering degree which integrates both professional science education and business entrepreneurship. During the time, I finished a distinguished capstone project to design a bio-mems device for single cell sequencing. More information could be found in RESEARCH.

Grade Performances

As for studies, I received my thesis score A+ and A on these two master degrees, which my hard work and accomplished research deserved. In addition, the following are all courses I took during the period:

I got my final GPA 4.22/4.3 (4.0/4.0), conceived outstanding to other students in graduate school

and  3.833/4.0  at Berkeley.
